Victoria and I have worked on two quilts, both of which have hung extensively at shows and galleries.
Garden Delights is an unusual double printed image of Victoria’s grandparents on their midwest homestead and features modern star elements drifting upwards. During consultation, Victoria emphasized the memory of her grandparents tending the peonies and iris in the garden were an important memory for her. I used pictographic quilting to represent these flowers as well as a small wren and a pair of robins, representing Victoria and her dearly departed grandparents as well. Victoria was keen for me to use my blended background techniques on her quilt.
Stardust is a fun project featuring a shooting star. Victoria asked me to conceptualize a way to quilt this huge 82″ x 99″ star with a few more stars scattered in, but otherwise left me to it. I was inspired by the 1980’s cartoon Rainbow Bright carrying a colorful pocket of stardust, which she throws to form a rainbow bridge upon which she goes on adventures. The giant star flies through a swoop of blended quilt texture of confetti star motif and a mixed background quilting combined with a lot of multi directional ruler quilting.
