I was really fortunate to spend Christmas in Hawaii this year.  I made this jacket specifically for the trip with a thrifted long denim.  The yarn couched green sea turtles (Honu) are sacred in Hawaii and I was thrilled when one decided to visit me on the black sand beach, in addition to letting me hang out with them while snorkeling one day!  The big stitch quilt lines detail was meant to imply the layers of ocean water and light and were made with a sashiko sewing machine, that mimics hand stitching.
