This lovely sunflower color wool fitted blazer is a thrift store find that has tried two or three times to become one of my yarn couching art jackets, but nothing ever seemed quite right.  The inspiration for the butterflies came a few days before a family trip, which is always a great time for some photography!  The butterfly scale made them easier to do on my sit down machine, layering tulle and wash away stabilizer to do the yarn couching.  Each butterfly is based on a real butterfly…I only wish I had room to do all 40 major recognized blue butterfly species!  The wing veins, and antenna were added with machine embroidery.  The shoulder butterfly, in profile has additional details of hand embroidery as well.
